Biomedical- I confess, I never encountered a line of work, a topic of study, or a branch of science that I wasn’t interested in. At the same time as I wanted to be a specialist in certain areas, I had an equal desire to be a generalist and find out how everything works and works together and wanted to be part of multiple groups and initiatives.
As a UCLA freshman, I worked from 6 to 10 AM, in the North Campus Restaurant at ASUCLA to make donuts, Danishes, and pastry every day before going to class till I was able to find biomedical jobs. Donuts with rainbow sprinkles make people very happy!
My first biomedical job was to pick up fresh cow brains from a slaughter house at 5 AM, put them in an ice cold buffer solution, bring them to the lab, isolate brain cells for studying movement of different molecules across the blood-brain barrier. Watching the slaughter house staff come to work with their big knives before the sun comes out puts a fear in you that makes you want to run away as fast as possible, as some of my colleagues did! But as a professor of medicine taught me a few years later, in medical research, “No Guts, No Glory!” If you want to become a vegetarian, go see inside of a slaughter house. I became a vegetarian for 2 years!
Then I went working on basic & clinical immunology research, a fascinating field of study which a huge number of illnesses and conditions are related to. That’s an amazing long story for later…
I worked on multiple medical R&D and basic and clinical research projects, including molecular biology, genomics, diagnostic tests, using and developing many new procedures and technologies. I incorporated computer systems and electronics into biotech and medical applications and worked on and researched numerous technologies for medical business applications…
I will reinvent your biomedical, biotech, medical research products & services, as well as business development by combining expertise from multiple science, computer, high-tech disciplines.
